State Volleyball Tournament at Coogee

The NSW State Volleyball Federation and Coogee Beach Volleyball Association proudly organize the State Tour competion that will be held for the first time at Coogee on Sunday, 22nd of March.
Registration will close at 8:30am at Coogee Beach.

To pre-register, send an email to cbvatournaments@gmail.com with your name, partner name, level (mens A, mens AA, women A, women AA), and contact phone before 5PM, Friday 20th of March.

If you don't pre register you will be charged a 10$ registration fee at the beach.

CBVA Mix Tournament 09

The CBVA Mix tournament will take place this Sunday, 1st of March at Coogee Beach.
If you want to play this 2x2 tournament, you have to be present at 8am at the northern side of the beach to register. At 8:30 all registered male players will draw the name of the partner.

Randwick Council has recently imposed restrictions on nets being set up. We are not allowed to play on Sunday mornings and between 12pm and 4pm the rest of the days.
There is simply no logical reason for a wholesome activity such as beach volleyball at Coogee, to be restricted in such a way.
This is a temporary resolution and will be reviewed by the council by the end of the summer.
Beginner's Class will be on Saturday mornings at 9am.

New Season Agenda !

Hi all,

Daylight saving time is coming soon again, so here is the agenda for the next few weeks:

Training for beginners and intermediate players:
Marcos will start his well known master classes on Sunday, 28th of September at 10am, fell free to pop in and join the group !

Tournament:
We will organise a tournament on the 18th of October, confirmation will be sent later.

Club Aniversary:
On the 25th of October we will celebrate one more year of our club, big parties and bbq expected !

And there are more things planned for November... :-)

Annual General Meeting 2008

Our Annual General Meeting will be held on the 24th of May (Saturday) at 12 o'clock, at the park in front of Alan's place.

THE AGENDA INCLUDES:
1. Committee welcome and update
2. Review of club's rules and conduct on and off the court
3. Announcement: CBV joins Volleyball NSW
4. New club fees (joining and annual fees)
5. Distribution and collection of membership forms
6. Announcement of tournaments and social activities
7. Elections: Current and new committee members

This meeting is important for all who play, and wish to play, in Coogee for the coming years.

After the meeting the club will be offering free sausages, vegetarian food and drinks.

daylight saving time

Hi there,
As you might now, the daylight saving period will end this Sunday. That means that the after work beach volleyball games during the week will end, as it will be dark by 6pm...
I find it weird that we only have 5 months of daylight saving, so I did a small research to understand the reasons of that. I thought that I would found that the reason was to be aligned with London´s time, but it seems that the objective of the daylight saving time is to have a similar daylight time during the day at the whole New South Wales (due to the big distance between the western border and the eastern cities, at the same time the amount of daylight is different).
But this is causing a lot of problems : The most important for us, of course, is that we will need artificial lights to play beachvolleyball during the week (and we don't have that in Coogee).

Other important problem is regarding the border between NSW and QLD, towns around the border have one hour difference during daylight saving time, because QLD does not change the time.
So what can we do to change this ? May be we can send a petition to the NSW and QLD parliament to ask them to create two different time zones at both states, one time zone for the east and one time zone for the west. The time zone of the east would be gmt +11, the same as the daylight saving time period. The time zone of the west will be gmt+10. In this case there is no need to change the time twice a year.

Julian and Garreth played in the National "Junior Masters" in the Gold Coast and won second place in the final. They represented the state of NSW, and Coogee Beach Volleyball (of course!), and have made us very proud!

Hi there !

This was my first new year eve in Australia, and I wanted to thank all of you guys for the great time that I had in 2006...

Hopefully 2007 will be at least as good as last year !!!

And by the way, last year we did great at the tournaments, the coogee beach boys ended first at the North Sydney indoor volleyball league, the Slam Vodafone Tournament at Coogee, and the Dee Why Spring League division A and B. At the photo you can see Bernie, Arnaud, Robert and Hernan, winners at the DY Championship.... And I don´t want to forget about the salsa dancing, some of our friends are improving very fast !! :-)

Let's continue with the good vibes this year !!!!

Hi there !!!
As you might have noticed, our new net has arrived, we waited one more week to have a sunny weekend, but finally we enjoyed the new member of our family, the rolls royce of the nets !!! :-)

Now it is almost impossible not to notice us while playing, the bright yellow colour of the net can be seen almost from the CBD !! :-)

*Salami boys slice up the opposition!!!*

*On a sunny but windy day, 12 international teams of 3 players from Coogee and Tamarama Beaches turned in a great exhibition of beach volleyball in front of a record crowd for Maroubra Beach

As predicted by Papasan Peppi 'thanks for coming, where is our trophy?' before a beach volleyball was even served, the number one and crowd favourites, Papasan Peppi and the Polish Toms, Big Tom and Little Tom carved up all opposition to win 5 straight games and take the final 2-0 at Maroubra beach last Sunday, despite Big Tom's painful and serious injured foot, dislocated shoulder and severe case of alcohol poisoning.

Many players knew it was a foregone conclusion and left early out of fear of being humiliated and sliced up by the Salami Boys. Those that stayed behind tried hard and never gave up. The South Americans Magic Marcos and Useful Uri suggested that the Salami boys only won cause they were unavailable to play as we could not afford their appearance fees. We will never know but what we do know is that once again Big Tom and Papasan go into immortal history as dual champions of the number one beach volley tournament on the Eastern Beaches calendar.

Beach volleyball players from Coogee, Tamarama and Maroubra are invited to the Tournament in Maroubra on Sunday, 29 October.

VENUE: Maroubra Beach, southern end of the beach, in front of the Maroubra Life Savers offices.

WHEN: Sunday, 29 Oct 2006, 9am for registration. Please note the teams will be drawn at 9.45am, so prior registration is essential. Late arrivals past 9.45am will not be accepted. The first round of games will start at 10AM.

COST: $10 in cash at registration. This will contribute towards 1st, 2nd and 3rd winner prizes, beer/wine/soft drink & sausages at the follow-up BBQ.

RSVP: Please pre-register by Thursday, 26 October 06, 10PM/22:00 to Robert Trzebski: email Trzebski@people.net.au.

WHAT TO BRING: Additional meat, salads, booze etc for BBQ, and what ever it takes to keep you happy :-))

For those interested in the playing modus:

Teams will consist of 3 players, one from each pool A, B and C;
ALL players will be graded in A, B and C pools – irrespective of their gender and their beach origin. In order to obtain equal numbers of players, some players may be migrated between the pools, with consent from Marcos, Olga and Victor;

Depending on the number of registrations, we will be playing in groups of max 6 teams. The best 2-3 teams from each group will advance to the knock-out rounds;

Teams will be drawn by the C players, i.e. lucky dip of A and B pool players;
There will be rally scoring up to 15 points or two point advantage to win a game thereafter;

Conventional beach volleyball rules will apply; however technicality tolerance will be given in particular to C pool players.
Should it rain, well… tough luck, we will go to the local pub!

This is a special one!

Coogee Beach Volleyball made it as far as Paris. Once a year they fill the steps of the Paris town hall with tonnes of sand to recreate a beach atmosphere and play social beach VB. On this ocassion we were known as the 'Kangaroo' team from Australia.

In the photo we've got AL (the Pom), one of our long term members spiking, and Peppi showing the French how to play beach volleyball Coogee style.

Hi there,

We can feel it in the air, summertime is getting closer and closer...
It´s true, winter is not very cold in Sydney, we can continue playing beach volleyball on weekends and hanging out at night, but there are two things that we can not do, bbq's on the afternoons and beach volleyball games during the week....
But summertime is almost with us again, and to make us remember those summer nights, here is a really nice photo.
